Ava Ma de Sousa


Ava is a PhD student in the Amodio Lab studying Social Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before her doctoral studies, Ava completed her Master’s in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. Before going to the Netherlands, she completed her undergraduate degree in Cognitive Sciences and Psychology in her hometown at the University of Toronto. Her current areas of research are in Affective and Social Neuroscience using computational approaches, with a particular interest in how different kinds of prejudice and bias arise. She is currently studying the effect of anxiety on social cognition.

In her spare time, Ava enjoys experimenting in the kitchen, catching up on memes, and tinkering around with music.
