Author: Rebecca Dyer
Rebecca is a PhD student with Cardiff University and the Wales Autism Research Centre, investigating the use of Multi-Sensory Environments (MSEs) with Autistic people. They are passionate about conducting research that benefits autistic people. To this end, they have hired autistic stakeholders, and begun their PhD with qualitative interviews, asking autistic people themselves how they feel about MSEs.
In 2022, Rebecca graduated Cum Laude from the University of Amsterdam's research master's Brain and Cognitive Sciences: Cognitive Neuroscience track. During their time there, they completed two research internships with the Communication in Social Interaction lab of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, and the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition, and Behaviour. They further completed an internship with the Language in Autism lab of the University of Amsterdam. Their research at these institutions investigated the perception of multi-modal cues for turn-end projection, interpersonal synchrony, and pragmatic language in autism.
While at the University of Amsterdam, Rebecca was also a board member for the student-led ABC Journal, for which they ran the writing and social media teams. They further volunteered as a scientific journalist for Cogbites: a blog that intends to make research in the cognitive sciences accessible for non-scientific audiences.
In 2020, Rebecca graduated from University College London with a BSc (First Class, Hons) in Psychology and Language Sciences. Their dissertation project here investigated the impact of recording lectures on memory using a cognitive offloading paradigm.
